The Results Treatment Method (RTM) is an effective form of physical therapy that our clinic uses to address any joint pain or weakness. It incorporates concepts including base of support, gravity influences, and emphasis on moving the proximal joint structure on the distal structure to improve efficiency and reduce pain. RTM takes traditional physical therapy and increases the specificity and selectivity of the movement to address the cause of pain or injury. The knee, like any joint in the body craves balance. When our medial quad is inhibited due to a tight lateral quad and IT band, we start to have issues at the knee cap. Here is a simple, yet powerful exercise to strengthen the quadriceps and gluteal muscles to improve proper alignment in the knee.
Unilateral Sit to Stand
Purpose: To strengthen (quadriceps and glut muscles) and improve balance.
Start by sitting at edge of a chair with your feet staggered so that the back leg is prepared to take majority of your weight.
Shift weight forward and stand up making sure your weight is balanced.
Repeat for 2 sets of 10 reps.
