You Don’t Have To Shoulder That Shoulder Pain!

Have you ever reached up for something on a shelf or out to the side only to be stopped by a strange twinge of pain? Many people we treat tell us they occasionally experience sudden pain at the shoulder the resolves with rest.

Shoulder pain can occur from a fall or specific injury; however, it can also occur as a result of small repetitive movements. Our posture effects our shoulder placement and alignment which in turn can affect our range of motion.

The shoulder joint is made up of the clavicle, scapula, and humerus. They come together to form the glenohumeral joint and the acromioclavicular joint. The rotator cuff is made up of 4 muscles which create shoulder movement and connect from different parts of the scapula to the humeral head.

When there is an imbalance at any of these areas of the shoulder joint, it is likely you can develop non-traumatic shoulder pain.

Here are some of the many common causes of shoulder imbalance causing shoulder pain:

1)  excessive computer use or prolonged slouched postures

2) stress and tension at neck and shoulder musculature

3)  poor strength of rotator cuff muscles and scapular stabilizing muscles

4) poor sleeping positions

5) improper lifting or reaching mechanics

If you feel like you may be suffering from shoulder pain as a result of any of the above listed causes, feel free to call to set up a free screen to determine any imbalances of the shoulder joint.
